National Disability Insurance Scheme

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a federal disability funding scheme that was created to assist and support Australians who have a disability.

The NDIS provides individual funding plans for each eligible person with a disability. The plan is tailored to their specific needs and goals. The scheme and plans are administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

Once someone has an NDIS plan there are 3 ways to manage the funds associated with that plan:
1. NDIA managed – the government agency manages the funds and only NDIS registered service providers can be used. The service provider claims funds directly from the NDIA on behalf of the participant after each service has been provided.
2. Plan managed – a financial intermediary claims funds from the NDIA on behalf of the participant when they receive invoices from a service provider for services provided.
3. Self-managed – the participant or their representative (e.g. parent or guardian) manages plan funds directly and pays service providers then claims reimbursement from the NDIA.

For more information, contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or have a look at their website www.ndis.gov.au.
The Speech Spot Illawarra currently accepts plan managed and self managed clients as well as clients who are not eligible for NDIS.

If your child has a chronic medical condition, you may be able to get this Medicare benefit to cover allied health services that help manage their condition. This program enables you to receive a partial rebate for up to five sessions over a calendar year.

Your GP will be able to determine if your child is eligible to claim rebates under this program and will provide you with the relevant documentation to bring to your appointment with us.
